Saint Athanasius
Saint Athanasius
A short, popular biography of the famous bishop of Alexandria, Egypt who was exiled from his diocese no less than 5 times, yet who in the end triumphed for Christ over all His enemies. As a young cleric, he was present at the Council of Nicea (325), and though he did not want to be bishop, none was found better suited for the job. He fought the Arian Heresy through every vicissitude and finally triumphed for orthodoxy. He wrote the life of St. Antony of the Desert and a number of books on theology, for which he was declared a Doctor of the Church. The famous Athanasian Creed is named after him. Here is a popular biography for young and old of the Saint who is called "The Champion of Orthodoxy."
