Butler's Lives of the Saints - Volume 3

The first edition of Butler's Lives of the Saints was written by Alban Butler, an English priest and scholar, and appeared between 1756 and 1759; this is the second revised edition, originally published in 1956. The poet Phyllis McGinley referred to it as "that famous learned and horatory set of volumes."

This book, the third in a set of four, contains the biographies of Saints for the months of July, August and September. Well-known Saints may be given several pages of text; the total number of Saints across four volumes is 2,565.
